Shirley Fitch English Memorial Scholarship

A scholarship in memory of Shirley Fitch English was initiated by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. W. Evans Fitch in 1981.  Mrs. English was a graduate of AHHS and later taught at Cambridge Elementary School.  Contributions of $10,000 were received by the AHSF in 1985.  The income of the $10,000 will be used annually to award a $1,000 scholarship.  In recent years, Mr. Fitch has supplemented the fund to assure the $1,000 award.

Description:  The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who has demonstrated academic effort, improvement and perseverance.  The student can be at any level of ability and should have demonstrated school spirit through involvement in extracurricular activities.  Recipients are selected by a committee composed of the Principal, Foundation Scholarship Chairman, and a representative of the teaching staff.  Kay Caldwell coordinates this committee.  No applications are required.
