The McPherson Family
Memorial Scholarship

This award was established in 1978, after the death of Debbie McPherson, with an initial contribution of $5,000.  It was expected that income would fund this award, which was initially $300 and a silver bowl.  Over the years, the amount of the scholarship was increased to $1,000 and the McPhersons supplemented the fund to continue the $1,000 award.  During the 1991-92 school year, Mr. McPherson contacted the AHSF regarding his wish to relocate the fund to benefit students at St. Luke's School.  While the situation was unresolved, the AHSF did not grant an award in 1993.  The Board communicated to Mr. McPherson that it was not possible to relocate the funds and that the scholarship would continue to be awarded until the funds were depleted.

Description:  The scholarship is to benefit a senior female athlete who demonstrates team spirit, fairness, courtesy, perseverance, self-determination, and average or better grades.  Selection is made by the athletic director and the coaches of girls’ athletics.
