Dr. Kevin Brown Named Alamo Heights ISD Superintendent
The Alamo Heights ISD Board of Trustees has hired Dr. Kevin Brown to serve as Superintendent of Schools beginning on June 2nd, 2008. The decision culminated an exhaustive search that began in August 2007, with the assistance of the highly regarded educational search firm of Hazard Young, Attea & Associates, Ltd. based in Glenview, Ill and that drew candidates from over 15 states.
Dr. Brown has served as Director of Personnel and Public Information for the past eight years for Alamo Heights ISD and has been a superintendent in training the last several years with Dr. Jerry Christian who is retiring in June after thirteen exceptional years with the District. In his 17 years of service in public education, Dr. Brown has been involved in all levels of instruction and administration, leaving a legacy of high achievement while receiving multiple awards for improvement at Southwest, Round Rock and New Braunfels ISDs where he previously served.
Born in Abilene, Texas, Brown grew up in Kingsville and San Marcos, receiving his BA with Honors from The University of Texas at Austin where he was President of the UT Band. He received his Master’s degree at Texas State University, where he was selected as the Outstanding Graduate Student, and his Doctorate at Texas A&M University. His wife Page graduated from The University of Texas at Austin and Baylor Law School and is currently a stay at home mom raising their 2 daughters, Hannah, 10, and Molly, 8, who attend Alamo Heights ISD schools and participate in the District’s Spanish Immersion Program.
Dr. Brown serves on the Executive Board of the Texas Association of School Personnel Administrators and has served as an adjunct professor in the College of Education at Texas State University.
“After a thorough search in which we interviewed candidates from across the country, the Alamo Heights ISD Board felt that Dr. Brown clearly exemplified himself as the candidate who is best able to take AHISD to the next level,” said Board President Steve Pritchard. “The Board is convinced that Brown’s vision for our District and his understanding of its culture and needs will build on what Dr. Christian has accomplished and will move us forward as we meet the challenges of continuing to set a standard of excellence in education. He is an excellent communicator with solid leadership skills that will serve Alamo Heights ISD well.
Dr. Brown is slated to begin as AHISD’s superintendent on June 2, 2008, a day after Dr. Jerry Christian’s retirement. |
