Summer Reading Lists

May 2008

Dear Cambridge Parents,
Summer and reading always seem to go hand in hand. It is a wonderful time for our students to expand and maintain the reading skills they have worked so hard on all year. On our website you will find a list of “suggested” books that are some of my favorites. This list is by no means complete - it is mainly a springboard to use for hours and hours of delightful reading. You’ll recognize some titles from last year’s list and notice some wonderful new titles, too. Students entering the third, fourth, and fifth grades will also find a list of Bluebonnet Award nominees if they want to get a head start on next year’s reading to qualify for voting. Remember, students have to read (or be read to) at least 5 of the Bluebonnet titles to be eligible to vote for their favorite in January of 2009. Please make plans to visit your nearest Public Library to check out books for reading all summer long and participate in their Summer Reading Program. Most branches also have a story time. Also, bookstores such as The Red Balloon, Borders, and Barnes and Nobles have reading programs. Have a very restful and fun summer. Let me know which books your family enjoyed during the vacation. I will be sharing my summer reading with the students in August!

Happy Reading!
