Our school nurse, Bettye Jean Gibson R.N., plays the major role as advocate for students and their families regarding health-related issues. Nurse Bettye's role also includes being a resource for students, families and school personnel. She is a liaison between school, students/families, community resources and the local Health Department. Additionally, Ms. Gibson is responsible for health screenings of students, assistance to students with disabilities, health supervision during school hours, immunization requirements, health instruction, community health responsibilities, and reports.

Please check out the Current Issues link above. The link contains information about colds, flu, when to keep your child home from school, and additional information on how to help your child should he/she become sick. It is cold and flu season and even though attendance is important, if a child is contagious or is feeling so poorly that they would not gain anything by being at school please keep them home. Also, if your child has immunizations due, send the proof of immunization to the school, attention: nurse. District medication forms are available for downloading for those that may need them. If you have questions about anything you can reach me via email: bjgib@ahisd.net.
Thank you!
Bettye Jean Gibson, R.N.
