Nurse's News: Reporting Absences

Parents or guardians are to call the school on a daily basis and report their child's absence prior to or shortly within the hour after school begins. The attendance clerks are available as early as 7:30 a.m. at 820-8860. The reason for the child's absence and identification of the person reporting the absence is also requested. If it is known as to the exact number of days that the child will be absent, the parent can inform the school of that number of days and therefore will not have to call the absences in on a daily basis. Parents should send in a note when their child returns to school. If their child has been absent for an extended period of time due to an illness it to their advantage to bring in a note from their physician. A note from the doctor excuses their absence.

There are of course other reasons for a child's absence besides an illness, namely, vacation, doctor appointments, personal reasons, funerals, and other miscellaneous reasons. The majority of children are absent on an average of less than eight days for the entire school year. If your child's absences are reported to be more than 10 days a letter will be sent home informing you of the concern for so many missed days of school.

One of the goals for our school is 98% attendance for the year!
