Senior Exam Exemptions Policy

Students are required to take end-of-semester exams. Exemptions are permitted only for spring semester seniors.

  1. In order to qualify for an exemption from a semester exam, spring semester seniors must maintain satisfactory conduct in all classes during spring semester. An “N” in a specific course results in the loss of the exemption for that designated class. A "U” in conduct in any class will result in the loss of exemptions in all classes. Any student who undergoes serious disciplinary action (removal from regular classes) during the spring semester shall not be exempt from any exams. (Serious is defined as any suspension, any Robbins Discipline placement, or any ISS placement.)
  2. Students must also maintain at least an “80” average for the semester in a course in order to be exempt from the semester exam. In Pre-AP/AP and Enriched classes, extra points will not be used in determining exemption privileges.
  3. A minimum grade average of “80” for the last six weeks is required for an exemption to be earned in a specific course.
  4. Students may not be absent more than twice during the spring semester of the designated class if they want to qualify for an exemption. For purposes of this policy, four tardies will be considered one absence.
  5. If a student who has earned an exemption chooses to take the final exam, the exam grade can only raise a final grade, not lower it.
  6. In special circumstances, Seniors will be allowed to take one additional absence for the sole purpose of visiting a college or university to determine their final choice. In order to gain approval for this additional excused absence, the senior would have:
    1. to submit a copy of acceptance letters from the college or university he or she plans to visit.
    2. to get prior approval for the exempted visit authorized by the Counselor with final approval given by the Principal.
    3. to notify all of his/her teachers at least two days prior to the planned visit.
    4. to present proof of the actual visit with signed verification on college/university letterhead from an admissions representative on the day of return to school.
