This is a camel-back truss bridge. For 35 years it was located over the San Antonio River downtown. The bridge was erected in 1891 on St. Mary's street and moved to Brackenridge Park in 1925. It is called the Letters of Gold Bridgebecause Mayor Bryan Callaghan was criticized for placing his name in gold letters on the bridge when it was built.
