Elvis impacted the world with his swiveling hips and rock and roll music. Elvis Aron Presley was born January 8, 1935 in East Tupelo, Mississippi. He had two parents Gladys and Vernon Presley. When he was born his twin brother, Jesse Garon Presley, was stillborn. Elvis's mom loved him so much that Elvis had to return her love. If Jesse had not been stillborn Elvis wouldn't have gotten the love he had as an only child. Elvis grew up listening to the black R&B and gospel. One day when he went to school he sang "Old Shep" to his teacher. She thought it was so good that she took him to the principal. The principal also liked it, so he entered him in the Alabama, Mississippi talent show and fair. Here Elvis made his debut. He won second place. In 1948 Elvis moved with his family to Memphis and entered Humes High School. Elvis visited Sam Phillip's Recording Service for the first time in 1953. He was going there to make his mother a birthday present because there was a deal. You could get two recordings for just $4.00. One day when he was in the recording shop he heard one of his favorite songs, "That's All Right Momma," playing on the radio so he got up and started dancing and singing. Sam Phillips came rushing out of the control room because he had just heard what he thought would make him a millionaire; a white person singing black music. In February, 1955 Elvis accepted Colonel Tom Parker's offer of managerial help. He arranged the sale of his contract to RCA Records. In 1956 Elvis recorded his first song to top the charts, "Heart Break Hotel". Also in September, 1956 Elvis appeared in front of 54 million people on Ed Sullivan's "Toast of the Town", and he released "Love Me Tender" in November. In the year of 1957 Elvis was drafted for the Korean War. Elvis could have gotten out of the army because he was a famous rock star, but he loved his country so much that he went anyway. His mom died the day he was drafted. In 1956 Elvis married Pricilla Beaulieu. One year later his one and only daughter Lisa Marie was born. Elvis divorced Pricilla on October 9, 1973. Four years later Elvis died in Graceland on August 16, 1977. Elvis's contributions to the world were he was the founder of what rock and roll is today. On Ed Sullivan's show they would not show his hips because they moved too much. People thought that Elvis would ruin the American youth, but really he was a roll model for kids and other rock stars. Elvis really had an amazing youth.
