Background

Jim was born in Greenville, Mississippi. He grew up playing around Deer Creek in Leland. His grandmother had a great deal of influence on his life. He moved to Maryland when he was ten. When Jim was growing up people had just started to watch television. He loved radio comedians. Jim talked his parents into buying a television when he was in junior high school. He found that TV was the best form of entertainment and immediately wanted to work on TV. Jim was not so much influenced by puppets at the time. Jim began to work with the puppets in high school, but he only used them so he could be on TV. Then when he used puppets a lot he got very good at it, and he just kept doing it. Later he married Jane Nebel whom he met in college and then she worked with him.
