Diana Frances Spencer was born July 1,1961. She had two older sisters: Sara, six years older than Diana, and Jane, four years older. Diana also had an older brother, who was the third oldest child, who died a couple of hours after birth. Then about three years after Diana was born another member of the Spencer family was added. His name was Charles. Diana was very attached to her new younger brother, and they went everywhere together. Diana went through life as a very devoted child. She made excellent grades in all her subjects in school and was always caring for everyone. It is said her kindness to everyone was very helpful in later life. After graduating from college, she showed her interest in children by passing up a carefree life with her friends. She became a teacher and a nanny for American families. In later years Diana's older sister Sara started dating Prince Charles of England. Sara invited Jane and Diana to a royal ball and that's when Charles and Diana first met. They also ran into each other horseback riding when Charles and his horse took a fall and his horse died. They both cried together which brought them closer together. Later on they started dating, and finally the night before Diana left on a quick vacation he proposed to her. Right away she said she would, but Charles made her think about it on vacation. February 24, 1981 it was announced worldwide that Lady Diana would marry the Prince of Wales. People all around the world liked Diana right away. Diana and Charles were announced man and wife on July 29, 1981. Over one billion people around the world watched the wedding on television. Sixty thousand people watched from the streets of London. People believed that Diana and Charles would be the future King and Queen of England. Then, eleven months after there wedding Diana had her first child who was a boy. His name was Prince William, or Wills for short. Two years later Diana had another son named Prince Henry, or Harry for short. Since Diana knew her sons would have a different life than most boys their age she broke tradition often by taking them with her when she traveled. Charles and Diana loved their sons very much but they were having difficulties between themselves. They finally separated in December 1992 and were divorced in August 1996. Diana was still treated as a member of the royal family. She could never be the Queen of England so she decided she would try to be the Queen of people's hearts. Diana did just that by devoting time, giving money, and bringing attention to charities around the world. To raise more money she auctioned off eighty of her most beautiful dresses and raised $3.25 million dollars for charities. Diana decided to set a goal for these six main charities: Leprosy, AIDS, Cancer, Homelessness, Victims of Land Mines, and The National Ballet. Diana traveled to many different countries to support her charities. She met and became great friends with many Heads of State and Mother Teresa. On August 31,1997 Princess Diana was tragically killed in a car accident. Worldwide people mourned her death. Hundreds of thousands of flower bouquets were placed outside Buckingham Palace And Kensington Palace. People came from everywhere to pay their respects to England's "Rose." A memorial fund has been set up for all of the charities she supported.
