Program Components

PROGRAM DEFINITION:

The Alamo Heights ISD Comprehensive and Developmental Guidance and Counseling Program is organized to deliver professional guidance and counseling services to PK-12 students in collaboration with their parents, teachers, administrators, district staff, and community members and service providers.

Professional guidance and counseling staff members adhere to professional, legal, and ethical standards and utilize guidance, counseling, crisis management, consultation, coordination, and assessment interpretation competencies to provide services to all students.

Through participation in the program, students develop knowledge and skills regarding intrapersonal effectiveness, interpersonal effectiveness, post-secondary planning/career readiness, and personal health and safety. These skills are emphasized through a variety of lessons and activities that encompass the AHISD Profile of a Learner and the recommended Counseling Content Areas from the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs and Texas Education Agency. Based on the individualized needs of each campus, the delivery of these concepts and skills may vary from school to school.

All professional guidance and counseling services are delivered through the four program components of a guidance curriculum, an individual planning system, responsive services, and system support.
