AHISD Letter 03/23/20

March 23, 2020

Dear AHISD Families,

We have been challenged in unprecedented ways during the past two weeks. Throughout it all, I continue to be so proud of how our students, teachers, staff and community have responded to those challenges and embraced our continuous learning efforts that began today to support our students.

Today, Mayor Ron Nirenberg expanded his emergency order for the city of San Antonio, to include a ‘stay at home’ order.  As a result of this stay at home order, AHISD schools will continue to remain closed, and we will implement different operational procedures for our staff that should help decrease the number of employees who are needed for the essential services of our district. I will be meeting with our Bexar County Superintendent group later this week and we will discuss and announce any updated school closure dates.  All updates will be communicated to you directly.

I want to assure you that we will continue the great work that we launched today with our students through our AHISD Continuous Learning Plan.  Our teachers will keep teaching and our students will keep learning, through your support and partnership. We have received guidance that we can still proceed with our materials/ device distribution plan for Wednesday. We have procedures in place to ensure that this is a safe and efficient process.

Please visit our AHISD Continuous Learning Site for resources and support.  Additionally, we will continue to serve meals for families, and our student counseling services will remain available to any student in need.

The safety and well-being of our community remains at the forefront of all our decisions. We will continue to communicate with you regularly, and we encourage you to visit our COVID19 website for important updates and resources.

I am grateful to each of you for your continued support. All of us look forward to the time when we will be able to once again gather together to support our students in the tradition that our Mule Family has come to know and love. Until that time, stay well!

Warmest regards,

Dana
