Student Council Update
Veer Patel and Lindsey Lam, AHHS Student Council President and Vice President, shared an update with Trustees.
Other Board Action and Presentations
Frank Stanage, Assistant Superintendent for Operations, presented a Texas School Safety Center Intruder Detection Audit.
Trustees approved an updated Local Policy FNCE (Personal Communication Devices/Electronic Devices). Since the time when AHISD Board of Trustees last discussed the new law, the District received clarification from lawmakers that the bill’s intent was a “bell-to-bell” prohibition and that districts did not actually have the discretion to define the school day. The law does not provide for the use of these devices during passing periods or the school day. AHISD will work with high school students to ensure they understand that cell phones and other personal communication devices, like laptops, are supposed to be stored in their backpacks all day from the first bell of the day to the final bell of the day. Elementary and middle school campuses already observed a “bell-to-bell” prohibition. Full implementation will begin Sept. 22 at the high school.
Trustees approved revisions to Local Policies CH and CV; approved an amendment to the District Innovation Plan; and approved the purchase of Golf Simulators.
Donations were accepted from: the Alamo Heights School Foundation; Cambridge PTO; Mule Team, and AHJS PTO. The accepted donations totaled $189,159.82.
Trustees accepted reports from the Goals and Priorities, Policy, Building and Assessment and Long-Range Planning committees and the District Education Advisory Council and Alamo Heights School Foundation Board.
