Alamo Heights ISD voters overwhelmingly approved three bond propositions in May 2023. Bond 2023 will provide updated learning spaces at all campuses, continue to address safety and security, and allow the district to be better community partners with additional parking, improved traffic flow, and outdoor and meeting spaces for community use.

The work will be divided into three project packages. Planning for Package One began in summer/fall 2023. AHISD is committed to sharing regular updates about the design, planning, and construction phases during this exciting time for the district.

The new high school schematic design was shared at the January 2024 Board Meeting. Construction at AHHS is expected to last from May 2024 until August 2026.



Package One also includes the relocation of the Excel Academy and Connects program to the current AHISD Central Office and the construction of a new Central Office/Learning Center for our school community.

February 2025 

There continues to be visible signs of construction progress as steel is erected for the new AHHS academic building. Closer to the ground, crews also completed foundation pours.

Over at the Visitor’s Bleacher Complex, site grading was completed and trenches will now be dug for utilities.

This past month the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council met with Sara Flowers from LPA Design Studio and gave their input on upcoming projects at Howard and The Junior School.

At the February Board Meeting, Trustees viewed renderings and approved the GMP (Guaranteed Maximum Price) for the AHISD Athletic Complex at Robbins which will see the addition of a softball field; office, meeting, and locker room spaces for softball and tennis; and resurfacing of the tennis courts. Our Project 2 website has renderings of the site.

January 2025 

The start of 2025 was a new milestone in AHHS construction- workers have begun erecting steel for the new building!

Foundation work also continued this past month and should continue through the end of February.

The Visitor’s Bleacher Complex sitework continues with grading and earthwork to prepare for future construction. Temporary light poles have also been installed.

The Bond Community Council met in January and reviewed renderings for upcoming work at Cambridge and Woodridge that will begin later this year. Our Bond Updates website now includes highlights of that upcoming work which will bring classroom refreshes to both campuses and improvements to both cafeterias and serving lines.
 

December 2024 

There were several construction firsts in December. The first foundation pour at AHHS occurred in the early morning hours on Dec. 20. The new building construction is divided into areas and the foundation pour started in one area of the site. Crews also finished drilling piers.

The first phases of the Visitor Complex at Orem Stadium project also began with the removal of lights and demolition of the bleachers and building. The project is scheduled to be completed by next fall.

With limited space at AHHS, a laydown yard has been created at Howard ECC for additional materials storage.
