“It is more important than ever for our AHISD community to be actively involved in this Legislative Session through ongoing communication with our state leaders regarding the needs of our students and staff. It is unacceptable to continue to be funded on 2019 allocations as we experience years of increased inflation and operational costs. Our students deserve so much more!” - Dr. Dana Bashara, Superintendent
Due to inaction in the 88th Legislative Session to adequately fund public schools beyond the 2019 Basic Allotment, the Budget Committee of the AHISD Board of Trustees convened several times to develop a plan to cut the operating budget by $5 million for the 2025-2026 school year. This is on top of cuts made during the 2024-2025 school year.

89th Legislative Session - January 14, 2025 to June 2, 2025
The time to act is now. We urge our community to speak up and ensure that our public schools are funded at adequate levels. Our goal is to equip and empower Alamo Heights ISD stakeholders with information about funding and budget challenges in AHISD, district advocacy efforts, and the legislative priorities set by the AHISD Board of Trustees.
The Texas Legislature must provide for an adequate school finance system that raises per pupil funding to at least the national average, that limits the impact of inflation on our students, that keeps qualified teachers in the classroom, and that fully funds state required mandates.
We oppose any expansion of charter school or private school voucher programs that rely on local property taxes. We also continue to oppose the “Robin Hood” recapture system currently in place which takes property tax dollars earmarked for education from certain school districts and reallocates those dollars to the State general fund.
How to Make A Difference
Continue to reach out on a weekly basis to Legislators and ask that they support an increase of the per student Basic Allotment for school funding by an additional $1,340 to adjust for the impact of inflationary costs to our schools from 2019.
