Dear AHISD Staff-
I enjoyed seeing so many of you at our annual Festival of Learning & Culture Night on Monday afternoon. This event showcases the incredible learning across our campuses while celebrating the diverse cultures that make our schools unique. Thank you to all the students, teachers, and family members who volunteered to be a part of this year’s festival.
Mark your calendars- Our annual Strings Festival is coming up in two weeks and showcases our students from the elementary level all the way to our seniors! Save the date for Monday, April 13 at 7 p.m. in the MuleDome. Listening to our strings students play together in this performance is always inspiring and truly highlights our district commitment to fine arts across all our campuses.
I appreciate your patience as we continue to investigate the cybersecurity ransomware incident impacting our network. If you missed the message I sent to our community as an update last Friday, you can read it here. This is a time-consuming, thorough process and our AHISD information technology team is working diligently with third party professionals to restore all our systems and investigate the extent of this unauthorized activity. I will continue to keep you updated as this work continues. I will continue to keep you updated as this work continues.
New Athletic Director
Earlier this week we shared the news that Sean Reno was named our new Athletic Director. I’m always proud when we have internal talent from within the district to promote to key leadership roles. I’m certain his athletic and administrative experience, and his big heart for our community will take our Mules athletics program to the next level of success. Sean will be instrumental in hiring our new Head Football Coach and we will begin searching for a new Woodridge principal in the coming weeks.
Bond Construction Update
It continues to be a busy time for bond construction projects all around AHISD and it will ramp up even further as we get into the summer months. This last month we celebrated the first games on our Mule Diamond softball field at the AHISD Athletic Complex at Robbins. Our high school building remains on time and on budget and we look forward to moving in this summer. Construction at the Junior School and our Central Office/Community Center will begin in June. We are looking forward to expanded classroom space for 5th graders at Woodridge next August and refreshes for the remaining areas of the school this summer. Our Cambridge staff and community continue to model flexibility as construction continues. The cafeteria has been relocated to the Gold Gym for the rest of the school year. Facility transformations are evident across the district - I’m grateful for the ongoing patience and flexibility of our students and staff members who are impacted by construction.

We are thrilled to share that Alamo Heights High School special education teacher Monica Lopez is a state finalist in the 2026 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards! As a finalist in the Rising Star- Secondary category, she received $1,000 for herself and a $1,000 grant for the school. State finalists will be interviewed and grand prize winners announced in early May at an awards ceremony in Houston. The surprise announcement was made in front of her students from Heights Printing Co.
Reminders:
Opt-In for School Text Messages: AHISD utilizes the School Messenger system to communicate important information to families through email, text, and/or phone calls. If any contact information has changed over the summer, like phone numbers or email addresses, families should contact their campus office to update in our student information system. In order to receive text messages, which the district sends only in emergencies, families must opt in to this service. Here's how to sign up for text messages. Those who have previously opted in do not have to complete again.
If you see something, say something! We ask all AHISD families to commit to having ongoing conversations with students about safety and security and to encourage the reporting of any concerns to a trusted adult on campus. Families can also report safety concerns on our website by clicking Students / Parents and then Safety Concerns.
Please stay connected with all things AHISD by visiting Heights Happenings and also following us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
