
Four campus initiatives have been recognized as 2025 Promising Practices by the organization Character.org. Alamo Heights High School and Cambridge Elementary were honored for practices that demonstrated significant impact and strongly align with principles that help schools cultivate a culture of character.
This year, 230 schools and organizations from across the United States were recognized as Promising Practices including 24 in the state of Texas and 4 from Alamo Heights ISD.
Alamo Heights High School was recognized for three initiatives:
Quick Connections - a campus-wide practice where teachers analyze student feedback on belonging, share effective relationship-building strategies, and implement new approaches to foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
First Friday - organized by the Student Council, First Friday is a monthly event where students enjoy games, music, and treats during lunch, fostering a sense of community, school spirit, and social interaction among students.
Heights Printing Co.- Write Your Story, Rewrite Expectations - Printing Co. is a work-based learning program at AHHS that offers students with disabilities authentic work experiences, helping them develop job skills in a supportive, real-world environment.
Cambridge Elementary was honored for their Family Breakfast: Strengthening the School-Home Connection. The event brings together approximately 50 Tier reading students and their families to promote the importance of reading at home. Each family leaves with a new book, reinforcing the event’s goal of fostering a love for reading and deepening school-family connections.
Since October 2016, Alamo Heights ISD has partnered with Character.org to implement the 11 Principles of Effective Character Education. All five campuses, as well as the district, have been recipients of the Character.org Promising Practice Award for various initiatives that promote character development.
