Boys Basketball Team- State Semifinalists
This year was the 18th straight season that the Mules have appeared in the postseason. The team finished 2nd in District 26-5A before an impressive playoff run that saw victories against Leander Rouse, John Jay, Corpus Christi Ray, and Liberty Hill. They lost to Fort Bend Marshall in the State SemiFinal game played at Goliad High School.
Basketball players are Jack Brewer, Sophomore; William Whittingstall, Junior; DK Garza, Junior; Harrison Taylor, Sophomore; Beau Taber, Senior.; Luke Chancellor, Freshman; Matthew Munguia, Senior.; Joseph Gaidusek, Junior; Rex Railsback, Sophomore; Gunnar Jones, Senior; Alex Elliott, Junior; Charlie Mitchell Freshman; Gavin Peterson, Junior; Taylor Searls, Sophomore.; Ethan Shaw, Freshman; and Bennett Johnson, Senior.
Coaches are Andrew Brewer, Bruce McConaghy and Ben Rost.
State Odyssey of the Mind
This Spring, 11 teams represented AHISD at the State Odyssey of the Mind Competition. They are from Cambridge, Woodridge and the Junior School.
Cambridge teams are Flying Pickle Popcorn, Cookin' Dragons, Stellar Six, Alpha Nuggets, and Fire Breathing Turtles.
Woodridge teams are Froggy Knights, Bubble Dragons, and Astromables, the only AHISD team that advanced to World Finals and received the prestigious Ranatra Fusca Creativity Award.
The Junior School teams are Pickled Odyssey, Aluminati_42, and The O-Mega Minds.
Students are supported by teachers Carol Walters, Celine Bordelon, Karyl Hernandez, and Tamara Vollmer-Slowey at Woodridge; Cheryl Duckers and Julie Draper at Cambridge; and Teresa Milliger at The Junior School.
Spurs State and National Competition
The Spurs Dance Team, under the direction of Luisa Hidalgo, earned state and national recognition this year. Spurs Dance team members are: Mariah Garner, Madison Ritchie, Sadine Sanchez, Alex Kendrick, Skarlett Muniz, Nyla Floyd, Danielle Soto, Gianna Garcia, Maddie McDonald, Caroline Drake, JamisonCummings, Juliette Drake, Chantal Martinez, Isabella Sanchez, Jessica Tovar, Ann-Marie Perez, Ella Lyssy and Kylie Atkinson.
Latin State Qualifiers
Students from both the High School and the Junior School competed at the Texas State Junior Classical League state Latin Competition in Houston in April. They brought home numerous top ten individual awards. Latin teacher is Alexander Guernica.

Student Council
Daniel Corso, President of the Alamo Heights High School Student Council, shared the April update with Trustees.
Other Board Action and Presentations
Trustees approved the 2025 Senior Gift, a framed watercolor painting of the original high school building, as presented by students Addie Roberts, Josie Page, and Senior Class of Officers. The painting will be done by AHHS alum and artist Nathaniel Garza.
Yvonne Munoz, Howard Principal; Sean Reno, Woodridge Principal, and Jana Hawkins, Cambridge Principal; presented campus Community Based Accountability System (CBAS) reports.
Dr. Jimmie Walker, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, presented a Gifted and Talented program review.
Matt Streger, Chief Financial Officer, presented a Tax Rate and Budget Update. It is a very active week in the Legislature with bills on public education and uncertainty of the ramifications to the District budget.
Trustees received an update on Bond 2023 Construction presented by Bond Construction Manager Mike Hagar.
Trustees approved the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) for Cambridge and Woodridge. Construction will begin this summer as part of Bond Project 2. Bond Construction Updates are available on the District website.
A report was presented on Board Member Continuing Education Requirements.
Trustees approved revisions to local policies CAA, CDA, CY, DH, EHB, EHBB, FFG, and GKA as part of TASB Update 124.
Trustees approved the renewal of the food service management contract with Southwest Foodservice Excellence, LLC. Due to labor and food price increases, there is a need for AHISD to increase breakfast and lunch prices on its campuses which fall under the National School Lunch and BreakfastPrograms. Trustees approved an increase in meal prices for students and adults for the 2025-2026 school year:
Howard/Cambridge/Woodridge Breakfast $2.25 student, $3.65 adult
Junior School Breakfast $2.35 student, $3.65 adult
Howard/Cambridge/Woodridge Lunch $3.50 student, $5.00 adult
Junior School Lunch $3.75 student, $5.00 adult
Trustees approved the TEKS Certification for the 2025-26 school year. In accordance with Texas Education Code, school districts and open-enrollment charter schools are required to certify annually to the State Board of Education and the commissioner that, for each subject in the required curriculum other than physical education, students have access to instructional materials that cover all the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for the coming school year.
Trustees approved a recommendation to engage Armstong, Vaughan & Associates, P.C., for annual financial and efficiency audit services.
Trustees approved the second renewal of a depository contract with Plains Capital Bank for July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2027.
Donations were accepted from the Mule Team, Alamo Heights Junior School PTO, Howard PTO, and Alamo Heights School Foundation. The accepted donations totaled $111,145.21.
Trustees accepted reports from the Building, Goals and Priorities, and Assessment and Long Range Planning committees; Alamo Heights School Foundation and District Education Advisory Council.
