Spotlight on Excellence
The Alamo Heights Sports Media team was honored as the December Spotlight on Excellence recipients. Team members are: Ayana Mendez, Brian Monette, La Rhon Fields, and Scott Short; AHHS and Bryan Slocumb, Technology Department.
National Board Certification
Two Alamo Heights ISD teachers have earned National Board Certification, the highest credential in the teaching profession- Shelly Bynum, theatre teacher at Alamo Heights Junior School, and Sara Garcia, 5th grade teacher at Cambridge.

AHHS Student Council President Veer Patel and Vice President Lindsey Lam shared an update with Trustees.
Other Board Action and Presentations
Dr. Jimmie Walker, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, and Matthew Streger, Chief Financial Officer, presented a report on Pillar VII of the Community Based Accountability System which is focused on fiscal and operational systems. For the audited fiscal year of 2024-2025, 85.6 percent of the AHISD budget was expended on payroll for staff. Additionally, $23.184 million dollars was sent back to the state in the form of recapture. Finally, AHISD held a public hearing to discuss the FIRST results from the 2023-2024 fiscal year.
Trustees approved the 2024-25 Financial Audit completed by Armstrong, Vaughan, and Associates, PC.
As required by state law, a public hearing was held for the School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST). FIRST is the state’s financial accountability rating system. The system is designed to encourage Texas public schools to better manage their financial resources to provide the maximum allocation possible for direct instructional purposes. AHISD received a “Superior Achievement” rating based on 2023-24 data.
Trustees approved the 2026-27 school calendar. The calendar was presented by Dr. Frank Alfaro, Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services. The approved calendar is posted to the AHISD website.
Trustees approved a 2026 Bond Issuance in the amount of $70 million and a purchase for AHHS furniture with Bond 2023 funds.
Donations were accepted from: Woodridge PTO; Friends of Strings; PTSO and Mule Team; multiple athletics donors; Angel Pest Control, Inc.; Frost Bank, and the Alamo Heights School Foundation. The accepted donations totaled $201,021.71.
Trustees accepted reports from the Goals and Priorities,Building, Budget, Policy, and Assessment and Long-Range Planning committees; and the Alamo Heights School Foundation Board.
