Martha Spoor Young Writers Workshop

Martha Spoor

With Governor Abbot’s announcement on Friday, April 17th to close schools for the remainder of the school year and with the current uncertainty of public health measures required for June, the Martha Spoor Young Writer’s workshop will not be taking place this year. We do appreciate the interest of those students who began their applications. We encourage you to apply again next year. Made possible by the generosity of the Alamo Heights School Foundation, we look forward to offering the workshop again the summer of 2021.

The Martha Spoor Young Writers Fund was established in 2008 with the Alamo Heights School Foundation in honor of Martha Spoor, a lifelong resident of San Antonio, a 1987 graduate of Alamo Heights High School and English teacher at the Alamo Heights Junior School.  Martha’s greatest passion was teaching.  For almost 14 years, she fulfilled her dream as an English teacher at Alamo Heights Junior School.

The Martha Spoor Young Writers fund is used to enhance the writing program at AHJS through a special summer writing workshop.  The first workshop was held in July 2010 with endowed funds from the Martha Spoor Young Writers Fund facilitated by AHSF.
