Alamo Heights ISD voters overwhelmingly approved three bond propositions in May 2023. Bond 2023 will provide updated learning spaces at all campuses, continue to address safety and security, and allow the district to be better community partners with additional parking, improved traffic flow, and outdoor and meeting spaces for community use.

The work will be divided into three project packages. Planning for Package One began in summer/fall 2023. AHISD is committed to sharing regular updates about the design, planning, and construction phases during this exciting time for the district.

The new high school schematic design was shared at the January 2024 Board Meeting. Construction at AHHS is expected to last from May 2024 until August 2026.



Package One also includes the relocation of the Excel Academy and Connects program to the current AHISD Central Office and the construction of a new Central Office/Learning Center for our school community.

December 2025 

The most visible progress on the outside of the new AHHS building is the brick work which is now complete on the front and south side along Castano.

Framing for all classrooms is complete, hallway tile will start in mid January, and sheet rock is progressing in the Main and South wings.

At the AHISD Athletic Complex, the turf is laid out on the new softball field and bleachers are in progress. The brick is finished on the building that will house tennis and softball locker rooms, coaches offices, and meeting space. Over the break, power was connected from the natatorium.

Classroom refreshes continue at Cambridge and the next set of classrooms in Building 3 will be completed in February. Piers have been drilled for the additions to the cafeteria and new Central Plant. Kitchen/Cafeteria Renovations are now underway. The kitchen will not be in service until next school year. Meals will be brought in from an alternate location.

Fifth graders at Woodridge will spend the second semester in portables as work has begun on an addition and renovation to the fifth grade classrooms. Over the Winter Break, demolition of interior classroom walls began in the 5th grade hallway. The project will be completed by the start of the 2026-27 school year.

Design work continues for the Junior School and new Central Office/District Community Center.

November 2025 

It’s been dominating the view over AHHS for over a year, and now it’s no more. The tower crane was disassembled and removed in mid November!

Brick is complete on the North Wing and front of Main Wing and is in progress on the South Wing. Windows are installed on the first and second floors of North Wing and almost done in Main Wing. All offices and classrooms are framed in Main Wing and on the first and second floors of South Wing.

At the end of October, the golf simulators were installed in the golf space in the new Visitor's Bleachers Complex. It’s the first devoted space for golf at AHHS.

Tennis courts have been resurfaced at the AHISD Athletic Complex at Robbins. Shade covers have been installed and wind screens are ordered. Over at the softball field, the installation of the field is getting underway and turf is down in the batting cages and bull pens.

At the Mule Yard, restrooms and bleacher shade covers are complete and bleachers will be installed this month.

The next set of classroom refreshes is complete at Cambridge and the next group of classrooms is being renovated now. Work on the Central Plant continues.

Woodridge received portables in mid November in preparation of the renovation of the fifth grade wing. Fifth graders will spend the second semester in the portables.

During the Thanksgiving Break, hallway work was completed at Woodridge. Materials had been on order since the summer classrooms refreshes, and the remaining work was scheduled for the break for minimal impact to students and staff.

October 2025 

One of the most visible signs of construction at Alamo Heights High School will soon be no more. Coming up in November, the crane that has towered over Broadway over the past year will be removed.

Framing of classrooms, hallways, and offices is underway on all three floors of the new building. Sheetrock is being installed and some areas have the first coat of paint. Brick has been installed on the North Wing and half of the front of the Main Wing. Windows are being installed after brick work. Roofing is ongoing and will be completed in early 2026.

Tennis court resurfacing is underway at the Robbins Athletic Complex and work also continues on the softball field and locker room/meeting room space.

The Mule Yard project continues with all baseball upgrades expected to wrap up in November.

Classroom refreshes continue at Cambridge Elementary. The first set of classrooms in building 3 will be completed the first week of November.

Planning and design work is underway for both the Junior School project and new Central Office building.

The latest edition of On Location with Dr. Bashara highlights the new Visitor’s Bleachers Complex at Orem Stadium which opened earlier this fall.
