Alamo Heights ISD is committed to keeping the community informed about the work of the Board of Trustees. This board summary highlights the action and recognitions from the latest Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees.

Recognitions 

Spotlight on Excellence
Angela Mancera, Central Office Receptionist, was honored as the February Spotlight on Excellence recipient.

Music Educator of the Year

David Stephenson, AHISD Fine Arts Coordinator and AHHS Director of Bands, was honored as the Youth Orchestra of San Antonio (or YOSA) Music Educator of the Year

National Champion Cheer
Alamo Heights High School cheer won a national championship at the UCA National Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida on Feb. 11. Junior Varsity earned their second consecutive national championship in the Large JV Game Day Division. Varsity won second place in the Super Large Varsity Game Day Division.

AHHS cheer also won a bronze medal in January at the 2024 UIL State Spirit Championships in Fort Worth.

Student Council
Jiya Patel, Vice President of the Alamo Heights High School Student Council, shared the Feburary update with Trustees.

Other Board Action and Presentations

Trustees heard about request that was previously approved by the Superintendent for high school student trip with the Science Department to Italy in December 2024.

AHISD’s Academic Performance Report was presented by Dr. Jimmie Walker, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, and a public hearing was held as required by Texas law.

Dr. Walker presented a Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) update on the program used to retain top talent.

Dr. Walker presented a Class Rank Update and provided an overview of the three phase project.

Trustees adopted a resolution in support of a Fair and Transparent Accountability System. This joins with other School Boards around the state.

Trustees approved local policies from a Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) policy update (122), based on legislation from the 88th Regular Legislative Session. The local policies impact by these legislative changes include: CQB(LOCAL) TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES CYBERSECURITY; CSA(LOCAL) FACILITY STANDARDS SAFETY AND SECURITY; DC(LOCAL) EMPLOYMENT PRACTICES; EHB(LOCAL) CURRICULUM DESIGN SPECIAL PROGRAMS; EHBC(LOCAL) SPECIAL PROGRAMS COMPENSATORY SERVICES AND INTENSIVE PROGRAMS; EHBCA(LOCAL) COMPENSATORY SERVICES AND INTENSIVE PROGRAMS ACCELERATED INSTRUCTION; FEA(LOCAL) ATTENDANCE COMPULSORY ATTENDANCE; FFAC(LOCAL) WELLNESS AND HEALTH SERVICES MEDICAL TREATMENT; FFB(LOCAL) STUDENT WELFARE CRISIS INTERVENTION; and FL(LOCAL) STUDENT RECORDS. Donations were accepted from multiple donors for Girls Golf Swing for the Cure and “Put-a-thon” fundraiser and Marsh & McLennan for Boys Basketball. The accepted donations totaled $14,365.

Trustees accepted reports from the Building, Policy, Goals and Priorities, and Assessment and Long Range Planning committees; and District Education Advisory Council and Alamo Heights School Foundation.

Trustees approved the General Contractor, Kencon, for Project 2 of School Bond 2023.
