AHISD School Board Trustee Elections General Information

School Board elections are held on the first Saturday of May every year. There are 7 trustees that serve on staggered terms for 3 years. Elections rotate between the 7 trustees as follows:

Place 1 and 2
Place 3 and 4
Place 5, 6, and 7

Elections are called by the Board at the January Board Meeting each year. This is published in the Board Agenda and posted to the district's website. The election notice and calendar are posted on the district's bulletin board at the AHISD Administration Building, 7101 Broadway.

Applications for filing to run for the board are available online, in the Candidate Packet which can be found on this website. Under current law, filing as a candidate starts 108 days before the election and runs for 30 days.

State law requires school districts to hold joint elections with cities and counties. This means that AHISD residents can vote for AHISD School Board elections at any Bexar County voting location. Early voting starts 12 days before election day. If candidates are unopposed then the district may cancel the election for that year.

For information about early voting and election day voting sites, visit the Bexar County Elections Department website.

This information is provided for general guidance, as of October 2024. Please contact AHISD at 210-824-2483 for the most accurate, up-to-date information as election laws are subject to change.
