The Spanish Immersion program is designed for English-speaking students who wish to become fluent in Spanish. Students enter the program in first grade. The curriculum for language arts/reading,mathematics, science and social studies is delivered entirely in Spanish in first grade and until midyear of third grade. Students are expected to continue in the program until fifth grade.
Students have the option of continuing in the middle school and high school program. Core content subject classes are offered grades 6-12.
The goals of the program are for students to develop the ability to communicate in Spanish on a level similar to that of a student the same age who is a native Spanish speaker. The curriculum parallels that offered in the regular program.
The program is available at Cambridge Elementary, Woodridge Elementary, Alamo Heights Junior School and Alamo Heights High School.
